Detailed Introduction to Google Chrome

Before year 2000 Microsoft was showing its dominance by promoting Internet Explorer. But after year 2000 many internet browsers were published; some of them are free and some are open source, these browsers were real challenge for Microsoft’s dominance. New technologies with better and smarter serves were introduced and still developers are hard headed to make there products smarter and faster.

In year 2008 Google Inc joined the battle by introduce its first web browser named Google Chrome BETA. It was a real blow for the companies having their own internet or web browsers. Google Chrome came with few of unique qualities which other web browsers haven’t. Let me explain some of them.

Appearance

Google Chrome didn’t flowed the typical design; like address bar with home button, menu bar with browser options having complex steps to tweak your browser. Instead of following general rules Google Chrome has developed minimalist and fastest to lunch web browser with simplest and unique features. For example as we know tabbed browsing is added to nearly all major browsers but Google Chrome gives you additional feature; instead of displaying blank page or home page it opens a page with thumbnail shots of the user's most visited sites.



  • Settings icon: [at top right corner, pointed as 1] customize and tweak Google Chrome.
  • Extension icons: [top right corner, left to the rench icon, pointed as 2] installed extensions for Google Chrome will be shown here; find extensions for Google Chrome.
  • Bookmark icon: [top right corner, left to the extension icons, pointed as 3] add current page in your favorites by clicking on this star or by using shortcut i.e CTRL D
  • Bookmark bar: [centered, under address bar, pointed as 4] displaying all bookmarks.
  • Plus ( ) button: [top left, pointed as 5] click this button to add new browsing tab.
  • Address bar: [top centered, pointed as 6] address bar.
  • 8 Square snapshots: [body center, pointed as 7] thumbnail shots of the user's most visited sites.
  • Links with icons: [bottom, under snapshots, pointed as 8] You may reopen accidentally closed tabs, list of recently closed tabs are given here. Google Chrome remembers the last 10 tabs you've closed.

Google Chrome Shortcuts

  • Ctrl B: Toggle bookmarks bar on and off
  • Ctrl H: View the History page
  • Ctrl J: View the Downloads page
  • Shift Escape: View the Task manager
  • Ctrl Enter: Adds www.and .com to your input in the address bar and open the web address
  • F6 or Ctrl L or Alt D: Highlight content in the web address area Type a web address, then press Alt Enter: Open your web address in a new tab
  • Ctrl N: Open a new window
  • Ctrl Shift N: Open a new window in incognito mode
  • Press Shift, and click a link: Open link in a new window
  • Press Ctrl, and click a link: Open link in a new tab
  • Alt F4: Close current window
  • Ctrl 1 through Ctrl 8: Switch to the tab at the specified position number.
  • Ctrl T: Open a new tab
  • Ctrl Shift T: Reopen the last tab you've closed.
  • Ctrl 9: Switch to the last tab
  • Ctrl Shift Tab or Ctrl PgUp: Switch to the previous tab Alt Home: Open your homepage
  • Ctrl Tab or Ctrl PgDown: Switch to the next tab
  • Ctrl W or Ctrl F4: Close current tab or pop-up
  • F5: Reload current page
  • Ctrl : Make text larger
  • Ctrl -: Make text smaller
  • Ctrl 0: Return to normal text size
  • Ctrl P: Print your current page
  • Esc: Stop page loading
  • Ctrl F5 or Shift F5: Reload current page, ignoring cached content
  • Ctrl D: Bookmark your current webpage
  • Ctrl G or F3: Find next match for your input in the find-in-page box
  • Ctrl F: Open find-in-page box
  • Ctrl U: View source
  • Ctrl Shift G or Shift F3: Find previous match for your input in the find-in-page box

Chrome Task Manager

Google Chrome makes every tab to in separate memory process. If any of your webpage gets stuck, Google Chrome freezes just specific page instead of jamming your whole browsing session as other browsers do. So first time you will able to open task manager not just for Windows but now for Google Chrome, Cool? Use shortcut SHIFT ESC or click Settings Icon (ranch icon top right corner) » Tools » Task Manager and terminate non responding webpage.

Searchable Address bar

Now there is no need to install additional toolbar to search on Google. You may directly search from the browser’s address bar. Google Chrome automatically determines the input and gives you appropriate output. Is it cool, isn’t it?

Sync Google Chrome Bookmarks

Google always keeps on testing and bringing new features to users. So, Google Chrome Dev build added a feature that lets you synchronize your bookmarks, themes, autofills, preferences, extensions and apps with Google account. If you want to use this service make sure you have Google Account, click here to create one for you. Open Options box under Settings Menu (ranch icon top right corner), click Personal tab and click Set up sync.

Use Google Account ID to login, after few moments a window will be popup asking you about configuring your sync, select whether you are Keep every thing synced or not, click Ok and Google will store your configured data into your Google Account and immediatly broadcaste where you are syncnorzing your bookmarks using same account.

Inspect element

Google Chrome has loaded with a lot of features; from the list of delighted features here is one such feature Google Chrome Element Inspector. This feature is quite useful for webmasters and developers. Element Inspector gives you full control to inspect, edit and debug the HTML, CSS or JavaScript in a webpage, right-click on the page and click on Inspect Element in the context menu. Notice 8 tabs appeared at the top of the element inspector. Let’s get look each tab separately. Make sure that the Resource tab is enabled, if it isn't, you won't be getting any load times. Click the big "Enable resource tracking" button.

HTML, JavaScript and CSS source is displaying under Elements tab. It also provides brief detail about Styles, Element properties and metrics.

Resource consumption of each element on the page in terms of size and time is given in Resource tab.
